  35. Archive is a monthly subscription magazine published by Norwich Computer
  36. Services. It first appeared in October 1987, shortly after the
  37. introduction of the first Archimedes computer.

  39. This CD contains the entire contents of all the magazines since Volume 4
  40. issue 5 (February 1991) and the disc which accompanied each issue from
  41. the first issue. It therefore probably comprises the single largest
  42. repository of information about the entire range of Acorn machines ever
  43. collected together. Some of the early material may concern products that
  44. are now obsolete, although still in use, and so the information may not
  45. be easily  available elsewhere.

  47. For the first three+ years Archive was compiled on Apple computers and so
  48. cannot easily be made available. From Volume 4 onwards, the magazine was
  49. published entirely on the Archimedes using Computer Concept's
  50. Impression. These Impression documents are obviously rather large. Most
  51. will require a machine with 4Mb of RAM, and some may need even more.

  53. The contents of the magazine are also provided as plain text. The text
  54. files, which can be found in the TEXT directory, are supplied in several
  55. formats. For those with a large amount of RAM each volume is  contained
  56. in a single large file. This makes it easy to search quickly for
  57. keywords relating to products or other items in which you are
  58. interested. For those with less memory, each issue is also provided
  59. separately.

  61. One very popular section of the magazine has always been the 'Hints and
  62. Tips' supplied by readers. This is so useful that it has been reproduced
  63. on its own, as a single large file covering all issues, as one file for
  64. each volume, and as individual issues. Similarly PRODUCTS contains
  65. information on new products as they were introduced, upgrades, and other
  66. facts. As with the Hints and Tips section this is supplied in different
  67. formats.

  69. As well as the magazine itself and the magazine discs the contents of
  70. some other discs supplied by NCS are also provided. There are several
  71. Utility discs which contain useful Public Domain, Shareware, and other
  72. programs. There are also many of the 'Shareware' series. These are no
  73. longer supplied by NCS, but for many years comprised a library of PD
  74. material. Some of this may now be obsolete or superceded by later
  75. versions of the same program, but it does provide a valuable
  76. collection.
